  • Murder Ink Productions is offering an immersive murder mystery dinner at Buca di Beppo at Arrowhead—where guests solve clues and play roles during a shared meal—and will join Fall Fest on November 8 at Margaret Hanson Park to extend their interactive holiday experience.  CW7 Arizona

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nine students from four Deer Valley Unified high schools became semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program after taking the PSAT—finalists will be named in February from over 16,000 high-scoring students nationwide.  Glendale Independent
  • Christine Twidwell is the principal of Insight Academy of Arizona (5323 N. 99th Ave. in Glendale) and has spent nearly a decade helping students get a flexible, personalized online learning experience. She said getting involved with local events and volunteer work, like serving meals at a shelter for women and children (offering job training), builds strong community bonds in Arizona.  Glendale Independent

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Independence High School has started a composting program that turns cafeteria leftovers and classroom paper into healthy soil to help students learn about reducing food waste and supporting the environment. The program, led by teacher Phuong Kieu and garden sponsor Stephanie Ehrick (a master gardener), plans to expand by sharing produce with the culinary program and possibly the wider community.  The Glendale Star

  • West Valley residents will join the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Westgate Entertainment District (6770 N. Sunrise Blvd. in Glendale) with check-in at 9 a.m., the Promise Garden Ceremony at 9:45 a.m., and the walk beginning at 10 a.m. The event is sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association.  Glendale Independent
  • Glendale's Abrazo Arrowhead Campus announced the miracle birth of baby Benzi — a remarkable outcome — after Dr. Ravi Gunatilake led a creative treatment plan for Bendu Kiazolu who had experienced several pregnancy losses. Her newborn son was delivered at 32 weeks weighing three pounds — a success that came after a long struggle — and Dr. Gunatilake advised waiting a year before future pregnancies.  Glendale Independent
