COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Homeowners associations in northern Glendale approved Flock Safety cameras to join the city’s license plate reader network — adding new measures to track cars through local subdivisions.  Glendale Independent
  • Today, Cox Charities awarded a $10,000 grant to Glendale nonprofit School Connect AZ to expand STEM programs for Title I schools—this funding will help build partnerships with local STEM businesses for workshops, CAFEs, and field trips.  Glendale Independent

CULTURE NEWS

  • Black Phone 2 is a new horror film that picks up four years after the original and stars Phoenix native Miguel Mora alongside Ethan Hawke as the vengeful Grabber in a high school setting; it was shot in Toronto with real winter snow conditions and Morales said he is excited about the upcoming local screening+ noting the film can be enjoyed without seeing the first installment.  CW7 Arizona

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers in the northwest Valley should use other routes this weekend because parts of Loop 101 are closed for pavement sealing and lighting work—southbound lanes close from 9 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday and northbound lanes from 9 p.m. Saturday to noon Sunday. In the East Valley, Loop 202 will be narrowed from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday for a widening project.  AZ Family

SPORTS NEWS

  • Deer Valley football won a hard-fought 24-23 home game against Lake Havasu on Oct.10 after key players suffered injuries early in the game. The Skyhawks built a 17-7 halftime lead and now expect tougher challenges as the season continues.  Glendale Independent
  • The Arizona Cardinals have lost four close games and will host the Packers on Sunday as they try to improve their fourth quarter performance and adjust with Jacoby Brissett starting in case Kyler Murray remains limited—Green Bay, fresh off a win, will aim for its first road victory while working to boost its turnover numbers. Coach Jonathan Gannon said the team must find better solutions to avoid giving up late points.  Glendale Independent
