- ➤ Glendale will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with several events at its libraries and community center from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15—featuring an author storytime on Sept. 12 at Heroes Regional Park Library, a mariachi performance on Sept. 18 at the Main Library, and a Dia de Muertos altar that will invite community contributions until Nov. 4. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Glendale Community College’s BAEE program received a donation from SRP’s Agua Fria Generating Station to help future educators and ease the teacher shortage & support first-generation and working students balancing their studies. College officials said the funds will provide needed financial aid and strengthen the program’s role in preparing elementary and special education instructors. The Glendale Star
- ➤ Glendale Community College students produced two public service announcements — 'Ladder Safety' and 'Time to Get Moving' — that have been nominated for the 2025 National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Rocky Mountain Southwest Region Student Production Awards. - ➤ Glendale resident Stacy Damitio has started a Change.org petition to stop the relocation of about 100 peafowl now living around Sahuaro Ranch Park and the Glendale Main Library. The city council announced the plan during an Aug 12 workshop and the petition, with 2,943 signatures as of Sept. 4, is not on the agenda for the Sept. 9 or Sept. 23 meetings – the issue remains under review.
