- ➤ Glendale PD is asking for help to identify a calvary blue Toyota truck with an aftermarket light that left the scene of a hit-and-run near the busy intersection of 51st and Peoria on Jan. 7 at 7:30 p.m.—the truck struck a pedestrian who sustained serious injuries and is still receiving treatment. - ➤ Leila Parnian, a self-taught artist, broke a mural record by unveiling Arizona's tallest mural with collaborators Danny Lauren and Sean Fortin. She also offers inclusive art classes—TheraPour and PartyPour—that let residents explore art through intention-setting and creative fun. CW7 Arizona

- ➤ Deer Valley Unified School District named two new principals – Alisha Kellum for Las Brisas Elementary and Amanda Hicks for Highland Lakes School as part of a six-principal shift affecting schools in Glendale and Peoria. They said these leaders will support teachers, staff and students during the upcoming school year and work to boost academic success. The Glendale Star
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Glendale announced that longtime employee Djordje Pavlovic was promoted to Engineering Services Director on Aug. 13—his first day will be Aug. 25. He will lead nearly 40 engineers in city projects, including work on a $478 million capital improvement plan. Glendale Independent
- ➤ Glendale council members have raised safety concerns about e-bikes and e-scooters after constituents reported near-collisions near schools and busy intersections — one member had to brake sharply when a young rider cut in front of his vehicle. The council will draft a proposal to set age limits as current rules only ban these vehicles in parks. Glendale Independent
- ➤ Maricopa County Human Services replaced its old manual asset tracking system today with the new Wasp system—using RFID and handheld units to quickly gather data. The change, funded by federal grants and updated by HSDIT staff, will save time and reduce errors—improving future inventories. Maricopa County
- ➤ Three Glendale residents—Amy Hughes, Denise Carr and Gabriel Gilbert—filed a lawsuit claiming the city's panhandling bans and street ordinances violate their First Amendment rights. They are asking for a preliminary injunction to stop the ordinances and are represented by Public Justice, the ACLU and ASU’s First Amendment Clinic. The Glendale Star
