- ➤ Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona will host a public 5K on Saturday, Sept. 20 at State Farm Stadium (1 Cardinal Way) in Glendale from 6 to 11 a.m. Runners of all ages will receive medals and event shirts while enjoying a festival with food trucks, vendors and music (parking opens at 5:30 a.m. and the race begins at 7 a.m.). ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Three adult hikers were rescued from White Tank Mountains on Thursday after exhaustion forced them to seek help; the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office’s aviation unit flew two men and one woman to a hospital—one of whom was in critical condition—where they received prompt care. KTAR

- ➤ Glendale promoted long-time employee Purab Adabala to transportation director on Thursday after Ryan Lee stepped down. Adabala will lead the transportation department — managing the regional airport, transit services and pavement management program — and use his 18 years of experience to guide future projects. - ➤ Three Glendale residents sued the city after filing a federal complaint on July 30 that claimed two ordinances banning panhandling violate the First Amendment and unfairly target people who rely on panhandling for income—city officials have not yet been served with the complaint.
