Over 100 JCPenney stores (119 total) are being sold to a Boston private equity firm for $947 million, including four in Arizona in Glendale, Goodyear, Mesa, and Yuma.

The all-cash deal will close on Sept. 8 and the funds will go to JCPenney creditors as part of its reorganization following its bankruptcy in 2020.

Baker Wee Bakery, which has served the valley for 30 years, opened a new kiosk at Arrowhead Towne Center in Glendale with a curated menu that includes cake slices, brownies, lemon bars and rotating vegan options—initially launching in June near the Apple Store and Victoria’s Secret. A grand opening weekend with family-friendly events, giveaways and discounts is planned for Aug 2-3.

Three residents in Glendale are suing the city this week over two ordinances they say unfairly limit free speech by banning panhandling in many public areas — the lawsuit claims the rules go beyond addressing safety and unnecessarily restrict peaceful speech.
