- ➤ Arrowhead Towne Center in Glendale is collecting donations to help The Foster Alliance supply backpacks and school supplies for foster children as classes start; students in nearby districts begin on July 31 while Glendale schools start on Aug. 4—by July 29 the mall raised $3,510.90 of its $5,000 goal. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ MAG partnered with the Glendale Transportation Department to train crossing guards across the West Valley during July and will hold another session on Aug. 5 at Steele Indian School Memorial Hall in Phoenix. The program advises students to use designated crossing areas and avoid distractions while reminding drivers to yield to pedestrians (including children) in school zones. The Glendale Star
- ➤ ADOT closed the eastbound Loop 101 off-ramp at 27th Avenue Monday night to repair it as part of a $140 million project that began in September 2024 to widen Loop 101 between I-17 and 75th Avenue — drivers should use the 35th Avenue exit or take Union Hills Drive to reach 27th Avenue, and the ramp will reopen in late September. The project will add lanes, widen bridges, install new freeway lighting, and resurface pavement, with work set to finish in spring. Glendale Independent

Katie Hobbs said today on KTAR News 92.3 FM that she is outraged by ESA funds being spent on items like a $16,000 cello and a Rolex watch—she also questioned if a law is needed to stop risky hiking in hot weather and expressed concern over a new federal order on moving unhoused people to shelters.
