- ➤ Glendale and Phoenix fire crews responded Tuesday at 6 p.m. to a house fire at the corner of 43rd Avenue and Cactus Road that resulted in one man dead + one woman with minor burns hospitalized. KTAR

Artisan jeweler James Avery opened its store at Arrowhead Towne Center with a charm event running through Aug.4 — Best Discount Furniture and Mattress started at the former Bed, Bath & Beyond location, The Scribbled Hollow held its ribbon cutting on July 11, Doobie’s Smoke & Vape Shop opened this spring, a Chick-fil-A is temporarily closed for electrical upgrades, and Vallarta Supermarkets will soon open a new grocery store. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Michael Koontz, Jerome Borsch and Holly Dagnino were convicted for trafficking methamphetamine after a 2023 investigation and have been sentenced to 8 1/4, 9 1/4 and 6 years in prison respectively—officials said the sentences send a strong message against dangerous drug trafficking. KTAR
