- ➤ A $50,000 grant from Salt River Project will fund container housing on church grounds in Glendale to offer emergency shelter and social services to families in need. The grant supports Family Promise’s Legacy Village initiative + it will be spread over two fiscal years as part of a $4.2 million campaign to expand help for homeless families. Glendale Independent

- ➤ Violent animal abuse in metro Phoenix is rising with cases of beating, drowning and strangulation (the Arizona Humane Society reported this) and Gov. Katie Hobbs signed Senate Bill 1658 on June 27 (which now requires pet owners to provide proper care) as residents are urged to call 911 if they suspect abuse. KTAR

- ➤ Comedian David C. Smalley will perform four stand-up shows at Stir Crazy Comedy Club in Glendale on Friday, Aug. 1 and Saturday, Aug. 2 with shows at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Opening acts Johnathan Gregory and Zac Allen will join Smalley as he uses edgy humor on race, culture — and family topics to entertain local audiences.
