- ➤ On Friday, July 11 at about 8:51 p.m., Glendale Police responded to a fatal collision on Grand Avenue — a tanker truck backing into a business blocked three lanes when a small sedan hit its rear, killing 51-year-old Daniel Scott Sargent as bystanders performed CPR before Peoria Fire Department pronounced him dead and police began investigating. - ➤ Glendale police arrested 25-year-old Katiya Deja Clark in connection with a fatal hit-and-run on June 23 that left 21-year-old Tony Marie Gonzales dead near 71st Avenue and Bell Road — investigators used video evidence to link her to the collision and charged her with felony leaving the scene when death is involved. - ➤ Today, the Perseid meteor shower begins in Glendale and will continue until August 23—with its peak expected on August 12—13. Skywatchers are advised to check the early morning sky for 50 to 100 meteors per hour as bright moonlight may reduce the display. CW7 Arizona

- ➤ Arizona State Parks and Trails announced that registration is open for the fall Family Campout Program with camping classes held at public campgrounds in Payson, Sedona, Benson, Lake Havasu, Safford, Eloy and Oracle. Registration costs start at $90 for one night for a family of up to four—families with extra members pay an additional $5—while the program provides camping gear and teaches basic outdoor skills.
