  • Cloud Covered Streets, a Valley non-profit, has helped people experiencing homelessness with food, clothing, mobile showers, and haircuts since 2016. Executive director Robert Thornton said compassion is key to effective support—he noted the organization now employs three unhoused individuals—emphasizing that private housing is also needed.  KTAR

  • Stor America opened its self storage facility at 16804 N 53rd Ave and Olive and Oak Hair Studio began serving customers earlier this year at 6760 W Deer Valley Road — the salon is closed on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays. Quik Trip and Crispy Cones will soon open new locations at 8251 W Glendale Ave and 8280 W Union Hills Drive, and La Frontera EMPACT is building a suicide prevention facility; meanwhile, El Pollo Loco reopened its renovated store at 5810 W Bell Road and Hot Topic is operating temporarily on the lower level at Arrowhead Towne Center as renovations continue.  Glendale Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Maricopa County Human Services Department improved its purchase request process by implementing an automated OnBase system that cut approval times from 29 days to 10 days and lowered rejections from 10 percent to under 5 percent; the system now sends automatic notifications (the interim solution began in January 2024) and was fully rolled out in August 2024 (with $200,000 initial funding and expected future costs of about $85,000 yearly).  Maricopa County
