  • Cornerstone Healing Center will host a community unity event on June 19 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM to unite behavioral health professionals, local leaders, and law enforcement — all working to address substance abuse, mental health challenges, and community safety.  Glendale Independent
  • A relocating family lost two dogs along I-10 near Avondale when four escaped their transport vehicle; one dog was returned and another was found dead. The family and HARTT ask West Valley residents to leave food and water for the missing dogs—Gru is black with white marks on his paws and Browny is brown with similar markings—and call 623-343-4407 if they see them.  The Glendale Star

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Authorities identified Javayah Shecole Burkett (18) of Glendale as the wrong-way driver who died in an early Wednesday crash on Interstate 17 near Seventh Avenue after colliding with a pickup truck driven by a 53-year-old man from Tolleson who sustained non life-threatening injuries, while investigators continue to determine if impairment was a factor.  KTAR

  • Glendale earned the Best City for Business award from the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday night, June 3—this honor recognized the city’s strong economic development marked by nearly 13,000 jobs added and over $1.5 billion in planned investments in its Sports and Entertainment District. Mayor Jerry P. Weiers and city officials received the award in South Phoenix, affirming the city’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment.  Glendale Independent

  • Diana Shawcroft and Jennifer Lueth were reported missing during Memorial Day weekend in 1996 from Glendale — the Arizona Attorney General's new cold case unit is now reviewing potential new evidence with Glendale police and the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office in hopes of finding answers.  ABC 15

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Several Glendale college students earned academic honors on the dean’s list for the fall 2024 semester. Alexandria Thiel was honored at Aurora University, Abby C. Wilkes at Clark University, James Brown at Eastern Oregon University, Valentin Roncal at Wentworth Institute of Technology, while Daniel Chavez, Joshua Nunez and Jacob Eastland were recognized at Holy Cross and the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities—marking a strong academic showing.  Glendale Independent
