- ➤ Glendale Corps of The Salvation Army is holding two donation drives—one for school supplies needed by July 24 and another for bottled water, heat relief items and summer clothing accepted until Sept. 4. Donations are available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 6010 W Northern Ave and the school drive features a backpack distribution event on July 25 from 9 a.m. to noon. Glendale Independent

- ➤ Glendale Police Department’s new real-time crime center helped nab three armed robbery suspects after a robbery at a Wingstop on April 23—officers tracked a stolen car from Phoenix and details about the suspects—leading to arrests on charges of theft, trespassing, and weapons misconduct. KTAR
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Midwestern University announced it will invest $95 million in a new housing project on its Glendale campus. The project will add 256 studio apartments across eight two-story buildings on 12 acres and is expected to finish by spring to help ease the long housing wait list for students. The Glendale Star

- ➤ Glendale honored the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Commission at its City Council meeting on Tuesday when Mayor Weiers declared May 27 as MYAC Day and recognized former Mayor George Renner for his role in founding the group—this celebration also set the stage for honoring local high school graduates later this week. - ➤ Glendale City Council adopted final results from a mail-in election held on May 20 that saw residents narrowly vote against reclassifying 10 VAI-owned acres for employee use + vote in favor of an updated planned area development for the VAI Resort site. The close margins of 50.9% against Proposition 401 and 50.9% for Proposition 402 are expected to delay the long-delayed project further. ABC 15
