- ➤ On May 13, Glendale re-opened Heroes Regional Park after completing a $22 million project that added eight pickleball courts, the city’s first lighted synthetic field, natural grass fields, a dog park and more. The park—located on 81 acres at the corner of Bethany Home Road and 83rd Avenue—also features a four-acre lake, splash pad, and additional recreational spaces for all ages. Glendale Independent

- ➤ Latasha Causey, a Phoenix native and community development executive, became the first African American track president in NASCAR and the second woman at Phoenix Raceway when she was featured on the Amazing Arizonans podcast on May 21 — her interview details a breakthrough in leadership. KTAR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Early returns from ballots dropped off Tuesday show that Glendale voters are split on the VAI Resort propositions. The Maricopa County Election department will update the results Wednesday—more ballots are still being processed. Glendale Independent
- ➤ Glendale Police Department received an $8,000 Click It or Ticket grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to fund overtime for a two-week campaign that will run through June 1 to enforce seat belt and child safety seat laws. The department will use a zero tolerance approach & extra officers & careful checks to help make valley roads safer. The Glendale Star
