  • Glendale Police used a new radar system — costing $600,000 per patrol car — to catch speeding drivers in a residential area as neighbors complained, and the West Valley Task Force recorded over 215 stops on Wednesday while Officer Schlingman noted drivers offered excuses from being late to needing a restroom.  ABC 15

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Katie Hobbs signed House Bill 2765, which will take effect 90 days after the legislative session and allows community college students to get tuition help for earning a bachelor’s in education. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On May 1, Glendale opened cooling centers and hydration stations at key locations to help protect vulnerable residents from extreme heat, including seniors and those experiencing homelessness. City officials partnered with local groups — Arizona Faith Network and Phoenix Rescue Mission—to offer water, snacks, and case management services at these stops.  Glendale Independent
  • The Glendale City Council approved zoning for a 39-acre site on Loop 101 to support VAI Resort that will include housing, retail and hotels despite opposition from Worker Power—a union group that forced a referendum on a 10-acre parcel for an employee office and parking lot. Voters must decide with Props 401 and 402 whether to uphold the council’s decision, a choice that will determine if the project creating over 2,000 jobs can move forward.  Glendale Independent
