COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On April 15, Scottsdale-based Diversified Partners hosted the official groundbreaking for Shops at the Cardinal—a new nine-acre retail and restaurant development near State Farm Stadium at the southeast corner of 91st Avenue and Cardinals Way that drew city leaders including Mayor Jerry P. Weiers and representatives from economic development and the police department, with Señor Taco catering the event. The $20 million project is nearly fully leased with well-known brands such as Starbucks, McDonald’s and Bonchon, and it will add family-friendly shopping and dining options to the popular sports and entertainment district.  Glendale Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Voters in Glendale and Goodyear must register by April 21 to vote on May 20 in an all-mail election. Ballots will arrive on April 23 and include measures for Glendale’s VAI Resort parking and office space plan—while Goodyear residents will answer local governance questions.  The Arizona Republic
  • Salt River Project crews connected nine remote Navajo Nation homes to power lines as part of the ongoing Light Up Navajo project. Crews from over 44 companies installed 149 poles & more than 81,801 feet of electrical line, and they will complete operations today before returning home.  KTAR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Researchers from Phoenix and Glendale studied a six-week program in which 15 Parkinson’s patients played pickleball and improved grip strength, buttoning speed, and other daily movements—physical therapist Jamie Nesbit and doctors Suzanne O’Neal, Patrice Ayala, and Dr. Tara McIsaac led the study. The research also noted social and mental gains as patients enjoyed the group play—helping them feel more active despite the disease.  Glendale Independent
