  • Former Glendale councilmember and business owner Tom Eggleston—who helped revitalize downtown—died on March 8 at 97, and his funeral will be held at First United Methodist Church on April 12. He played a key role in shaping local projects like Arrowhead Mall, Westgate Entertainment Complex and BMO Bank.  The Glendale Star

  • A text message warned residents about overdue tolls from AZDOT but the alert turned out to be a scam—Arizona does not operate toll roads and residents are advised not to click any links.  KTAR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Glendale Public Libraries will offer free poetry workshops in April led by poet, teaching artist and rapper Sean Avery Medlin at the Foothills Library—sessions run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on April 3, April 17, and April 24 and are open to everyone 15 and up with registration starting a week before each event—participants can choose to attend one, two or all workshops.  Glendale Independent

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildlife World Zoo welcomed a healthy baby reticulated giraffe earlier this month at its West Valley venue — Bailey was born on March 15 and now stands 6 feet tall. Visitors can see Bailey bonding with her mother DeeDee daily at the giraffe exhibit where a 12-foot feeding station lets guests interact up close.  KTAR
