- ➤ Sahuaro Ranch Historic Park will host the annual Glendale Folk & Heritage Festival on Feb. 28 and March 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will feature seven stages with music, dance, and storytelling plus interactive workshops, artisan vendors and a Plein Air painting competition with cash prizes. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Deer Valley Unified scheduled graduation ceremonies on May 14 at State Farm Stadium for five high schools and on May 15 at Goldwater High for Aspire graduates. The district board votes today to approve a spending plan (costing $139,351.66) that covers rental, audiovisual and security fees. Glendale Independent
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Glendale relocated most peafowl from Sahuaro Ranch Park and the main library after an Aug. workshop approved the removal without a formal vote. Ninety-six birds were moved at a cost of about $50,000 — leaving roughly 35 exposed to predators. Glendale Independent
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Tommy Edman will miss opening day because his right ankle surgery is still healing, manager Dave Roberts said today. The 30-year-old spent November repairing his ankle (including bone spur removal) and has begun light jogging, but he will not join full spring training until cleared. Glendale Independent
